Nestarec TRBLMKR 2018
For something really different, try this captivating orange wine from the Czech Republic. The winemaker, Milan Nestarec, claims this wine captures his own character in a bottle. He admits it is not a wine for everyone, and he is right. It is a wine for someone slightly offbeat, someone who expects more out of their wine, and someone who doesn’t settle for an average bottle of Pinot Grigio.
TRBLMKR is a field blend made from grapes grown in Nestarec’s flagship vineyard. The blend is made from a local Czech variety called Neuburger, supported by Malvasia, Chasselas and other red and white grapes.
2018 was a sunny, warm year in Moravia so the grapes were hand-harvested earlier than at any time in the past. The wines underwent spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast before spending more than 2 years on lees in big oak vats. A true natural wine, it saw no fining or filtration.
In the glass you will discover a slight nuttiness, light tannins, and just enough acidity, accompanied by complex flavours like quince and mango.
